The International Defensive Pistol Association is the best bang for your buck when it comes to sports.  If you are 12 or 112 years ov age you can compete.  IDPA is a Shooting Sport that will improve your skills while giving you an adrenaline boost.  ADDICTIVE This is not me but is a great video of the 2009 Nationals.  On stage 6 I am the guy with the pith helmet.

The Preparation Factor

Be Prepared. It is a good motto, and a great way to live.  I understand the need/want to purchase Ammunition that can be stored away for some rainy day.  I applaud those that think ahead.  This applies to handloaders that keep primers on hand and were not scrambling to come up with primers to shoot IDPA or IPSC when the 2009 Tsunami of unavailability hit the shores following the Storm of November.  I get it.   There is one place that I notice few if any shooters think about.  The one of, "If i have 5000 rounds for the firearm,  do i need any extra parts to make sure that the firearm will function enough to use them all?" 

Great question.  If you have not asked it of yourself, now is a great time.  Another great question to research before buying a firearm is, "Are replacement springs and other expendable parts like extractors, ejectors etc. available so I may "Be Prepared?"  If so buy some extra parts. I have at least 3 of every expendable part for my Glock.  Will they go bad? probably not.  But if they do, I know how to replace them and where to get them without wading through paperwork and waiting for them to come in the mail. 

If a firearms company offers a lifetime warranty, that is good. What is even better is a great warranty and the ability to purchase what is needed in case the firearm manufacturer goes out of business or is forced to not sell parts.  (After all we know why we buy the ammo, Same reason we should buy the parts) A firearms company that does not trust the end user enough to sell them spare parts should not be trusted to sell me a firearm.  So we are not all gunsmiths, that should not preclude us from having the parts on hand to take to someone with more skills in the fine art of fixing the broken lifesaver.

I prefer to spend my money on firearms that have parts availability.  I do not like expensive firearm shaped paperweights.

Gun Range Dues

It is that time of year again,  when we have to begin thinking about the payout for a year of dues. Gun Clubs want to be paid for what they provide.   Dues can run the gamut between $50.00 and $250.00 per year.  

What do we get in return?   A place to shoot,  A place to meet friends,  A place to be alone and enjoy the only sport endorsed by our founding fathers.  

Let’s say the dues are $250. That breaks down to $20.84 per month or $4.80 per week or 68.4 cents per day.  A snickers candy bar at Walmart  costs 69 Cents plus whatever ungodly anti sweet tooth tax the do-gooders want to put on the candy.   For less than 1 measly ucandy bar per day you can belong to a gun range. 

Don’t get me going on the cost per month compared to what most of us pay for that Cable/Satellite TV Bill, or how much a round of Golf costs, or some other half-assed entertainment.   This is a Lifelong sport and something that can save your life.

I have absolutely no use for free loaders, None, Zero, Zip, Nadda.  So if you don’t want to join a Gun Club and want to cry on my shoulders get to stepping.  I’ve got no time for you and you will get an earful. 

Another thing I’ve noticed in 2009 is the number of Gun Clubs going to Closed Membership or limiting the number of members.  So if you don’t want to join one or stay a member then don’t,  but don’t try and tag along with me to a range when you find that the places to shoot are disappearing as they surely are. 

Think about the investment in Gun Range Membership.  It  insures our freedom has a place to be exercised.
